Behold the eighth wonder of the modern world. Palatial splendour fit for an emperor.
Cost of U.S. embassy in Britain= $31 million, China=$49 million.......
Cost of U.S. embassy in Iraq= $923 million. Staff of 1000. Only 6 speak Arabic.
Priceless? No hubris. Ordinary Iraqis won't come near it, fearing for their lives as open targets for the insurgency.
What does the embassy do? It eats money. To keep people there, they have to pay outrageously high salaries and provide enormously expensive security. Those costs aren't in the $923 million. In order to get staff into it, the State Dept. is considering drafting employees.
When U.S. troops leave Iraq, won't this be the first American symbol to be destroyed? All $923 million dollars worth.
Meanwhile, the brave troops that Repukes think they only support are in substandard medical facilities with mouldy plaster and mice. Apparently no money for the troops in the field or when they return with brain damage .
And ordinary Iraqis? Electricity may be restored by 2013 in Baghdad. The money budgeted for that reconstruction project like most of the others was diverted to security and fighting the insurgency.
The hallmark of Bush leadership = levels of incompetence that can not be described as there is no precedent.
God couldn't reap this much wrath and misery upon mankind.

2013?? That'll mean they've gone for 10 years without hydro (or with intermittent hydro, which is almost as bad).
Where I live, the hydro goes out occasionally in bad weather, and it's a royal pain in the ass. And the longest it's been out is 3 days. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to put up with that for even 3 months, let alone years, let alone TEN years.
What a disaster.
One of my favorite pics, Brownie, Moron and teen perv Foley, gettin things done.
That embassy is on someones list for destruction. It's an imperialist symbol of a hated occupation.
Brownie, what a dolt. Foley, what a perv. And Georgie... what can I say.
I'm still amazed they used that building. What a way to say "We're here, get used to it". The worst possible thing they could have done.
