Tiny Towns Far Away

The beautiful Highlands of North -West Scotland.

There is a small town on the coast of north west Scotland
With dream comfort memory to spare
And in my mind
I still need a small town to know
Where everyone shares the same last name,
Leave us
Celtic, Celtic , Celtic.

Anyway, a tribute to a wee place across from the Isle of Skye, Caol Loch Aillse.

oh , i just love the country side and people up there!!!! one day i tried to get across to skye from mallaig but the ferry wasn't running. i didn't want to stay in mallaig so went down to the docks and stuck out my thumb like i was hitchiking. a guy on a boat asked me where i was going and i said 'anywhere but here'.

he allowed that he and his family were picking up supplies then headed across to the knoydart penninsula and i was welcome to come. as the peninulas is the start of the last vestige of any kind of wildlands in scotland i said 'aye aye' and hopped aboard.

we docked at Inverie, a village of 50 people. i sat in the pub and sessioned with some celtic musicians until the family were finished their errands. then we drove to their 3,000 acre croft and i slept in the shepard's room of the old stone house. in the morning their children yelled, 'quick come out, come out, there's dolphine running up the loch!!!'

i hurdled old stone walls with them and we ran after the amazing creatures, then the crofter got his land rover , we hopped in and drove up a 4x4 trail. truly amazing. the next night the village gathered on the beach for all saints eve, pagan style and we drank mulled wine around a bonfire.

one of the most memorable experiences of my life!

ach noo, laddy, ya know the fine places indeed!

Well hello Hawaii.
I should have guessed that no matter how remote the village, you've been there Scout. A great story, thanx.

My mom is the only one who has been to our ancestral village, where everyone has the same last name. I always thought it sounded a little incestuous.
Of course being on the coast these people are all half Norwegian thanks to the Viking's traveling ways :)

Thanks V.
Glencoe may be Scottish but it's more small town than tiny town, maybe nearby Appin might qualify for a tribute posting? Of course as you know, no one has ever been seen on the streets of Appin and this may in fact spawn an episode for the X files.

Me mom's used to me rantin about the evil Bush family :) I won't rest till the twins are in uniform in Iraq.
