Vandalism Meets Art

London inner city decay is art?

When asked if graffiti is art or vandalism, Bansky noted, "that word has a lot of negative connotations and it alienates people, so no, I don't like to use the word 'art' at all..."

haha...

Most of Bansky's work adorns English walls. The No More Heroes was a vandalistic foray in L.A. and the famous vandalism of the West Bank Wall in 2005, creating the label guerrilla art.

excellent guerilla art!!!! heh heh, yours truly hasdone some on bowen which riled some council members.....of course it wasn't done to the fine degree as seen. here.

so i went before council after they had it covered up and was told to go before the design committee....my biggest opponent there? the president of the arts council at the time (arts councils are a pain in the butt....juried art is a standard of too many....how to kill inspritation or what?).

result, i was voted down and it was suggested i make nice looking banners to hang. oh, so GLAD the design committee is so in touch with artists, various mediums, etc. etc..

they also recommended a prior council project of a mural that school children did be covered up. nice guys. that one, at least, was overruled.

OOOh, that's some smokin' art. I consider graffiti to be art, at least the stuff that isn't just F-You kind of thing. Tagging reminds me of the acid posters we used to do when I was a kid (in the stoned age)
